Project - Data logger Proposal

Data Logger Proposal

  • Science and Engineering
  • Primary Investigators: Nathan Bialke and Justin Schlee

Purpose of Project:

  1. The purpose of the project is to build a data logger in order to capture data reliably.
  2. In the past data collection and telemetry have been tied together. The current micro controller will work. In the future more resources will be tied to data storage and collection. To alleviate this problem it has been suggested to move scientific data collection and storage to an independent device.
  3. The data logger project will help VAST develop a better method of data collection so that more resources in the future can be moved onto different scientific projects. The data logger will help the implementation of new scientific senors and data acquisition methods.

Project Deliverables:

  1. Data Logger
  2. On board GPS
  3. SD Flash Memory
  4. Three Axis Accelerometer
  5. Three Axis Gyro-Scope
  6. Multiple expandability ports for sensors and servos

Resources Required:

  1. $350.00

Known Issues

* LED1 is not soldered down fully. It won't light unless you poke it. It was a resistor

  • If BSL jumper is not pulled, using serial port will put device into reset. Pull BSL jumper (J4) for normal operation. Only install it for using serial bootloader.
  • MAX3232 is not generating proper charge pump voltages. It seems C2 is not properly installed.
