Bio
I grew up on a farm in southern Idaho near Meridian. I do photography of all types in my spare time with an emphasis on scientific imagery. Photomicroscopy, astrophotography, high-speed, etc. I also have an interest in environmental issues / species conservation and habitat restoration.
I am currently working on state-of-charge systems for zinc-air batteries, but will be leaving shortly to work in the aerospace industry. I have worked on microbattery power management systems, coulomb-counter implementation, short and long range RF transceiver system design, and medium power (5-10W) RF amplifiers.
The Communications Team
My vision for the communications team is to provide a stable wireless base for the rest of the mission to drive against. In order to best support the rest of the team, the communications team much excel at designing new custom hardware and the supporting software. This must be done at a relatively fast pace and the platforms must be stable and kept current. The challenge will be met by the communications team with vigor, enthusiasm, and ingenuity.
Future
The best possible scenario has already come true! I will be leaving VAST and working for Orbital Sciences Corp in Jan 2009. I will be able to work on space hardware and make enough money to volunteer periodically in the Amazon Rainforest with primates (as I did during July 2008).
