Launch Readiness Review

The flight readiness review will occur at least 1 week prior to the date of launch.
During the Launch Readiness Review, the sub-systems will demonstrate that each of the following tasks have been completed and documented on the wiki.
If any of the tasks are not complete, launch will be postponed or canceled completely.

  1. Defined and documented science/technology objectives
  2. Defined and documented Minimum, Mission, and Full success criteria
    • Each criteria must be measurable
  3. Assigned all critical launch roles
  4. Defined and documented flight system, including balloon type/size, payload mass, target ascent rate, parachute size, target descent rate, and target peak altitude
  5. Defined and documented detailed launch procedures and a pre-release checklist
  6. Defined and documented a detailed tracking and recovery plan
  7. Defined and documented radio frequencies to be used during launch day
  8. Defined and documented flight and ground hardware to be used during launch day
    • Defined and documented flight payload capabilities
    • Defined and documented specifications for each flight capsule
    • Defined and documented ground tracking hardware and user manuals/instructions for each piece of tracking hardware
  9. Documented testing of all critical flight hardware as defined by systems requirements
    • Testing must be done within 1 month of proposed flight
  10. Documented list of all possible failure modes, their failure mechanisms, and the actions taken to mitigate critical risks
  11. Documented an updated list of all critical contact information
    • FAA, area sheriffs, VAST team members
  12. Inventory of critical supplies checked off
